Mercedes Brake Service

One type of basic Mercedes brake system is the Single-Circuit Hydraulic System. The components of this system include the master cylinder, slave cylinder, reservoir hydraulic hose and hydraulic brake fluid. There is a small piston assembly inside the master cylinder and when you depress the pedal the pressure is transferred to the slave cylinder, then another piston assembly sends the pressure that activates the piston on the calipers on the disc brakes.Mercedes Brake Repair Service in Plano Richardson Allen McKinney Texas

Another Mercedes brake system is the Dual-Circuit Hydraulic Brake System, which incorporated two separate circuits. There is the command circuit that is activated by the hydraulic pressure on the brakes. There is also an additional electrical circuit that is controlled by the onboard computer. When the brakes are pushed it also sends a message to the computer and it calculates the force and applies the same force to a hydraulic pump system that activates the brakes. The computer also calculates the car speed and braking pressure to maintain control. This system basically uses a hydraulic command circuit.

The more developed Mercedes dual-circuit hydraulic brake system is the newer Brake-by-Wire Braking System. The main difference is that wires are used to electrically communicate and send signals to the computer rather than using the hydraulic pressure. However, the hydraulic pressure braking system is still operable and can still stop the vehicle. This Sensotronic Brake System had its problems and wasn’t dependable and finally was removed from the market. Mercedes recalled the SL500 and E-Class vehicles as a precaution and the fix was new software for the control module and included some repairs on some vehicles.

The Mercedes Power Brake Booster System allows stopping for heavy loads or larger sized vehicles by amplifying the pressure of the brake pedal. The booster gets its extra power from a valve that receives air from the engine.

ABS anti-lock braking system is a newer braking system now installed on most autos. This was designed so that the brakes will not lock up in a critical hard braking moment. When the pedal is pressed hard and fast the detecting sensors on the wheels cause the hydraulic actuator to pulsate the brakes about 15 times a second and can bring a vehicle to a stop more quickly and safely without the driver losing control.

The repair of the basic brakes determines whether the disc or drum brakes allows proper braking function. However, the braking system on the Mercedes also includes the Brake Assist System (BAS) which aids the ABS anti-lock braking system by providing a shortened stopping distance of about 45 percent less than without the brake assist. Typical brakes in a critical situation can be applied too late and not depressed hard enough to prevent an accident. With Brake Assist and its shortened stopping range, it makes driving much safer. Mercedes brought this technology to their vehicles in the S-Class and SL-Class models in 1996. Following this new introduction, the brake assist was made a standard feature in all the 1998 Mercedes models and in all subsequent years. Many other vehicle makes now copy this innovation.

Mercedes Brake Assist PLUS (BAS PLUS) became available in autumn 2005 in the S-Class. This system gives both an audible and visual warnings that it’s about to hit the vehicle in front and the brakes calculate the amount of force needed to prevent the accident. This boosting system then provides the extra force to stop the vehicle, but the driver must activate the brakes.Mercedes-Benz Brake Pad Replacement Plano Richardson Allen McKinney Texas

Mercedes PRE-SAFE® brake system automatically brakes in a critical situation before an impending accident. It works with Brake Assist PLUS to prevent or minimize an accident. This was first made available on the S-Class and CL-Class Coupe in fall 2006. This can reduce the accident severity by 40%.

The Mercedes new 2015 C-Class car is equipped with the Intelligent Drive safety system which includes Collision Prevention Assist, if the system thinks you are about to crash, that consists of Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEB), which was first released in the S-Class models. The Mercedes DISTRONIC PLUS (2006) proximity control follows the car in front and includes staying in lane, braking and speeding up, but operates now only at low speeds less than 40 mph. The newest Mercedes Brake Technology is geared at making driving safer, and many of these features involve the braking system. Our certified team keeps abreast of these newest technologies to bring you quality repairs on the newest hi-tech Mercedes models.
