A hatchback is a 3-door car with two entry side doors with the third door considered the hatchback or a 5-door car with 4 side doors and a hatchback. If it’s not an automatic liftgate, then it is considered a hatchback. Hatchbacks may also have an opening and closing rear window in the hatchback door. Some issues with the hatchbacks are similar to the liftgate. The most common repair with the hatchback is the replacement of the door struts. The hatchback window and the hatchback itself both have two lift struts to open and maintain the opening of the window or door. So to replace them all, there are four total. Usually the window strut is different because the angle of the fastener follows the angle of the window so it doesn’t break.
Other hatchback door repairs include door handles that become worn out, some with plastic pieces that break, some handles rust and some others react to the summer heat and get a melted look which is sticky. A door handle replacement is a solution for all of these problems to get the handle operating correctly again.
Symptoms of non-working latches include not locking, and some don’t open. Latches contain gears that are mostly plastic, a small motor and the micro-circuit for “hatchback open” warning notification. The micro-circuit in the latch may or may not let your dash light know whether the hatchback is open or closed and it also has a warning beep that can be annoying until resolved. The gears usually wear out first and wear down easily, get chipped teeth, or the motor breaks. The tiny pieces in the latch are not available individually, so the best solution is replacement of the complete latching mechanism.
When a trunk, hatchback, or liftgate are opened and closed multiple times during a day there is some wear on the electrical harness that is attached to the hatchback gate. Sometimes the small wires begin to break. They can be repaired individually, but when breakage begins, there will usually be more, so it is recommended to replace the whole electrical harness to prevent other electrical problems. Linear Automotive Body Shop can repair your window and hatchback so they will open, close, latch and lock properly. We can also check your dash indicator, so that it is working properly and graphically showing when the hatch is open, closed and locked.
