We use high quality OEM replacement parts on our repairs.
The front grille’s purpose is to provide an attractive and yet protective cover in front of your radiator and engine compartment. It needs to allow for an open airflow which aids the cooling system of your auto. Since the grille is in the front of the vehicle it is also the most vulnerable to road debris, front end collisions, and hazardous driving conditions. There are three types of grilles. There is the Billet Grilles which refers to a series of horizontal or vertical bars either close together or further apart. Billet grilles can be made of steel, aluminum, or ABS plastic and are usually painted. Then there are the mesh grilles with a mesh pattern cut out of metal or plastic or even woven with stainless steel strands. These can be typically found on luxury vehicles, and sports cars. The mesh can be powder coated or painted in any color or even chrome plated polished steel finish.
There are also the CNC grilles, which is widely used today. CNC stands for Computer Numeric Control machine. This is a computerized system that cuts and/or punches holes in sheets of metal to punch out grilles. Today, most vehicles have either a high impact styrene or ABS plastic grille, which may be able to survive small bumps before being destroyed. However, the sun’s UV rays and the heat are also hard on the plastic damaging it by making it less flexible and susceptible to cracking. Some grilles over time simply just check, crack, and deteriorate on their own without any other incidents. Any side fasteners holding it in place may also break down, forcing a replacement.
Auto manufacturers now have a standard environmentally friendly alternative from painting grilles and chrome materials on grilles. They may use lightweight plastic with a special color resin in black and grays, and now available is a resin chrome effect in plastic to avoid secondary painting. This newer product is called MIC metallic ASA grille and is commonly available today. The plastic grilles provide about a 50% reduction in weight to their metal counterparts. Plastics are recyclable and also allow for lower manufacturing costs and provide engineers with greater vehicle styling freedom.
