Linear Automotive can use a number of techniques to bring your door back to looking great again. For smooth larger dents on doors, we may use our PDR techniques of massaging the backside in combination with heat to soften the dent and with a little hammer tapping it may slowly shrink the dent till it is gone. Most customers prefer this PDR technique, since it is economical and very affordable saving hundreds of dollars over the conventional filling and repainting.
Master PDR tools are essential for quality car door repairs and improve the quality and speed of the repairs. For a door repair we may include a special reflection board and lighting panel for better viewing of the door contours and any distortions. If we can leave the door on during its repair we may need a door jammer that will hold the door open and steady while we work. For larger dents and creases we may use the slide hammer for difficult to reach areas. At times we may lock and lever studs into place for the pull and crown compression processes either vertically or horizontally especially on lower rocker panels. We also have the option to use glue tabs with a puller to aid in the removal or minimizing of dents. For larger soft dents we also have a specialized handle suction cup for pulling out any dents. When we need to get in behind the door panel, we will use a long handled rod with a 360 deg. rotation handle to massage out the back of the dent. For proper door alignment we may use a bar to straighten the door in relation to the locking system.
Sometimes the fill and sand method cannot be avoided due to more severe damages. If a door is completely crumpled, then it is obvious that we will need to find a replacement. When refinishing a car door we often must remove trim and emblems that are over the damaged areas. We will sand the paint down to the metal and feather it on the sides, possibly hammer some of the crumpled sections back to a close contour shape. From there we will begin applying a filler to reshape the area. The filler is applied in thin sheets and dried in between the layers till we get to a point that we can begin sanding back to its original shape. If there are holes we can apply a patch in between the layers of the filler both inside and outside of the car door damaged area. Block sanding progressing with rough to fine grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections. Now it is ready for the painting booth base coats and finishing matched colored paint.
